Geriatric Pharmacology

Geriatric pharmacology addresses ageing-specific PK/PD with the growing elderly polypharmacy challenge. The session covers deprescribing frameworks (Beers Criteria 2023, STOPP/START, ANTICATCH), polypharmacy management, age-related PK changes including reduced renal and hepatic clearance, anti-cholinergic burden assessment, GLP-1 in older adults, and frailty-stratified prescribing. Discussion addresses fall-risk-increasing drugs (FRIDs), the comparison of older vs younger PD response, comprehensive medication review, polypharmacy in dementia and end-of-life care, and emerging AI-driven deprescribing decision support.
